A WALNEY man proved it is never too late to learn by passing his driving test at the age of 69.
The Mail, on Monday, October 14, in 1996, noted: "Pensioner Alf Masson, of Hastings Street, passed his test at the second attempt.
"And with a new car in the garage, Alf will now be able to get up to his allotment and take his wife Nora shopping a lot more easily.
"Alf started learning eight months ago and passed after just 12 lessons."
Mr Masson said: "I just never seemed to have the time to learn when I was working.
"I was a storeman during the day and then I worked behind a bar so I always seemed too busy."
The article noted: "I was a bit nervous at first but fairly confident that I'd pass, although I was quite tense when it came to taking the test."
He was looking forward to going to Windermere and Coniston.
