A group of 15 teenagers from Furness won the LiveWire Management Team Award at the Underexposed Film Festival in Manchester for a short horror film called Lily.

Lakes MP Tim Farron gained support from Macmillan Cancer Support for his campaign for a £15m radiotherapy and chemotherapy unit at Kendal's Westmorland General Hospital.

Walney Churches Together presented a Christmas musical called Saints Alive at St Columba's Church. Soloists included Peter Towers, Sue Duncan and Roy Sharpe.

25 YEARS AGO

British Gas was given permission to extract sand and gravel from 18 extra acres at Roose Sand Quarry, Barrow.

A semi-detached house at Birchwood Drive, Ulverston, was offered for sale at £48,950. A terraced house in Sun Street, Ulverston, was £49,950.

Pupils at Yarlside School, Barrow, were getting ready to present the nativity play Follow the Star and a musical show called The 12 Days of Christmas.

Frank Carson was the latest star comic to appear at Barrow's 99 Club, in Dalkeith Street. He was supported by Ray Martine.

Walking length umbrellas were on sale for £1.05 at the drapery department at Barrow Co-operative Society's Abbey Road store.
