YOUNGSTERS at a Barrow school watched with a mixture of concern and delight as a teacher agreed to be cut in half.
The venue was St Pius X School, Barrow, for a magic show by the Northern and Scottish Children's Theatre.
An article in The Mail, on September 30 in 1994 noted: "The teacher who volunteered to take part in the trick, Mrs Moira Lavender, was none the worse for her experience.
"The show had the children enthralled with all manner of tricks.
"There was juggling, conjuring and sword swallowing."
Headteacher Miss Ann Lillevik said: "They thoght it was absolutely fantastic."
Some of the youngsters were able to get involved in the tricks, including trying to get a series of interlocked magic hoops to come apart.
The performers were Johnny Hay and Asa Lees, who had given magic shows at several South Cumbrian schools.
Their next stop was Wales for a tour of schools.
