A Windermere property firm wanted to create flats above the Chambers wine bar in Duke Street, Barrow.

A terraced house in Rodney Street, Barrow, was offered for sale at £64,950. A semi-detached house at Blackbutts Lane, Barrow, was £139,500.

The number of people in Barrow claiming jobseekers allowance rose by 150 to 1,352. In Cumbria, the figure was up by 1,000 to 7,369.

Up to 90 jobs could be created if plans were approved to double the number of beds at the Abbey Meadow nursing home run by Risedale Estates. The £3m expansion would create space for 45 extra beds.
