PUPILS at Millom School were doing their best to boost festive trade in the town in 1999 with an advertising campaign devised by maths and information technology teacher Tony Dixon.

The Mail, on Thursday, December 2, in 1999, said he was being helped by youngsters to design leaflets, posters and flyers to advertise Millom Trade Association's plans for Christmas.

Mr Dixon said: "The children sent questionnaires to local businesses to ask them what they would like to achieve from an advertising campaign.

"Now we have had the responses the students are hard at work with their designs."

The article noted: "I think the scheme boost links between the school and the community and the children will get to see their designs actually being used."

One of those involved in the project was Jemma Muller, a German exchange student from Munich.
