AN ENVIRONMENTALLY-friendly business owner said a world renowned crisp company's scheme to reduce the amount of waste being produced "was a step in the right direction".
Walkers was the focus of a campaign because of problems at Royal Mail sorting offices after crisp packets being posted back.
The snack giants, based in Leicester, said it had put in place collection points across the UK for people to dispose of packets.
Cat Moffatt, who owns Cut The Wrap in Ulverston along with husband Paul said the idea is a step in the right direction.
She said: “I think it is great that Walkers are paying attention to public concern.
“I think it is a great step in the right direction but I will look forward to see when they use bio degradable packing."
Bosses at Walkers said they want to make all packaging 100 per cent recyclable, compostable or biodegradable by 2025.
Walkers received backlash over decade old packets found on beaches. A petition demanding environmentally-friendly packaging received more than 330,000 signatures.
Mrs Moffatt said other companies have to change their ways and follow suit if they want to save the planet.
“We can’t keep putting non-recyclable plastic into Earth, it can take so much. I think it is vital that companies follow suit but I do believe a lot of well-known organisations are starting to make a difference with their packaging.”
