PRIMARY school children can take part in a free Christmas crafts session on Saturday.

BAE Systems is holding a Christmas Craft Drop-In at The Forum in Barrow on Saturday from 11am to 12.30pm.

Children aged four to 11 will be able to make a Christmas card, and will also get the chance to take part in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) activities.

Each child who attends will have the opportunity to design a piece of artwork to put inside the BAE Systems’ time capsule.

The time capsule is set to be buried in the New Year, close to the new Submarines Academy for Skills and Knowledge. It is set to be dug up in 2044.

The children’s artwork will be based on what the young artists think they will be doing in 25 years’ time, what they think Barrow will look like in 25 years, and what they think submarines will look like in 25 years. All entries will go into a draw for the chance to win a £25 shopping voucher.

The time capsule will also contain postcards from employees, and historical artefacts including photographs and books.

Entry to the Christmas Craft Drop-In is free, and tea, coffee and fruit juice will also be provided. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
