A NUMBER of independent businesses have set out to bring the festive atmosphere to their street by installing Christmas lights.

Dalkeith Street businesses in Barrow, including Cloud Nine and Kate Skates have worked with Lumier Ltd and West Lakes Electricals to set up their own Christmas lights.

Simon Crompton, of Cloud Nine said: “We wanted to do something to bring some more festive spirit in to the town.

“If you look places like Ulverston, Kendal and Lancaster, they’re lit up and look great.

“So, we decided to do the same in Barrow.

“The lights have been really popular, the response we’ve had on social media has been really positive.

“In the future, we’re hoping to expand the lights further up the street, which will make it look even better.”

“We couldn’t have done it without Mark from Lumier Ltd and everyone at West Lakes Electricals.

“They’re both great at what they do, and both are readily available on our doorstep, but not enough areas in town are making use of them.

Mark Wilding from Lumier Ltd added: “The lights you can see across of the town have been used for more than 10 years.

“They were great when they were first introduced but now there is so much better options available.

“We wanted to show what could be done, if Ulverston can have great light displays, so can Barrow.”

The businesses involved have received praise from Barrow BID.

Simon Craig, the BID chairman, said: “I think it’s a fantastic effort by the businesses on Dalkeith Street.

“The lights really make a difference to the street, Simon and everyone else involved should be applauded.”

The official light switch on is taking place at 6.30pm on Saturday, with appearances from representatives from Barrow Raiders including Club Mascot Willy Two Horns.

Jack Fawcett, media director at Barrow Raiders, said; “We’re looking forward to the light switch on, it should be a great community event.”
