MIND in Furness is getting ready to turn January from blue to red for the third year running and it’s not too late for Mail readers to get involved.

The mental health charity has once again been chosen to take part in a national awareness and participation campaign.

Mind in Furness has the backing of Barrow Raiders and Barrow AFC as well as schools, businesses, families, and individuals across Furness.

Last year Mind in Furness was one of nine RED pilot schemes and in 2019 will be one of 25 across the UK, which shows how this campaign is growing

All Mail readers have to do to support the charity is to do something active every single day. It can be a 5k run or walk, bike ride or morning swim.

Anyone who decides to fundraise for their local Mind will see all the proceeds raised spent locally.

Fundraisers will also receive a medal once all funds have been collected.

Karen Dobson, chief officer of Mind in Furness, based in School Street, Barrow, said: “This is our third year participating as a Mind partner in the RED January campaign and it promises to be bigger, better and more inclusive than ever, with more focus on simply being active every day rather than limiting people to just running as in previous years.

“We are delighted to welcome back many participants from last year, which says a lot about the experience for them but are also attracting a lot of new people which shows the event is building momentum.

“RED gives us the opportunity to highlight the importance of mental wellbeing alongside and equal to physical wellbeing. There are great positive effects on mental wellbeing from people being active but often with mental health issues motivation can be a limiting factor.

“We are grateful for the effort everybody makes and the enthusiasm they bring, especially knowing that some people are doing this while battling their own mental health issues."
