IT'S A BIG weekend at Barrow Underground Music Society with DJ Gripper (Hacienda Classics Set), Vince Vega (Happy Mondays Tour DJ) and MC Tunes (808 State, Dust Junkys, Live and DJ sets) bringing two rooms of Old Skool Hacienda tunes, Acid House and Madchester Indie classics to the popular venue tomorrow night (Friday, December 14). Doors open at 7pm. On Saturday, its DJ Grippers' The Incredible Electric Discotheque, a seven hour club set in the bar. Doors open at 7pm.

Next week BUMS is open Thursday, December 20, from 6pm; and Friday (December 21), from 7pm for the superb pairing of Aziz Ibraham and Inder Goldfinger, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Ian Brown’s debut solo album, Unfinished Monkey Business.

Aziz, who had replaced John Squire as the Stone Roses’ guitarist, co-wrote such Ian Brown classics as Corpses in their Mouths and My Star and Inder was Winachi Tribe’s percussionist and a regular live percussionist on Ian Brown’s numerous tours. Unfinished Monkey Business reached the top five in the UK album charts, was certified gold and produced UK top 20 hits such as My Star and Corpses in their Mouths. The album was self-financed and produced by Ian Brown, and was his first album release since the break-up of The Stone Roses in 1996.

Saturday, December 22, is BUMS Festive DJ all-day session, followed by DJ Grippers' Incredible Electric Discotheque until the early hours. Gripper runs East Beach Studios and hosts two weekly shows on Sonic Zoo Radio, one (Zoo-ology) playing a mix of new dub, funk, jazz, electronica, afro and deep alternative grooves; the other (the Incredible Electric Discotheque) mixing new deep house and deep disco.
