THOUSANDS of leaflets will be distributed next year promoting Barrow as a tourist destination.

In 2019 Barrow BID aim to launch a 16 page promotional leaflet to promote the events and attractions that make Barrow a worthy destination to visit.

5000 leaflets will initially be produced and distributed to promote the town to day and weekend visitors or people staying in holiday parks, campsites and hotels up to an hour’s drive from Barrow.

The scheme itself is one part of the organisations Visit Barrow brand that was launched in September 2018 with the aim of bringing in partners so that they could run a promotional campaign in 2019.

Colin Garnett Barrow BID manager said: "The Visit Barrow brand will benefit Barrow Town Centre by promoting the town and surrounding area as a visitor destination.

"Barrow-in-Furness has ‘more than meets the eye’ for visitors to explore. Surrounded by sea on three sides, Barrow’s unique selling point to visitors is its diverse coastal attractions which include; sandy beaches, rocky beaches, lighthouses, an island with its own castle and king, links to golf courses, leading edge industry and a diverse range of natural assets, which includes a grey seal colony and Natterjack toads.

"When you stand in Barrow town centre you are no more than 15 minutes away from the coast in three directions, making Barrow a great place to visit for fun and play, nature, walking, cycling and seeing the rich heritage the area has to offer."

Mr Garnett was also to keen to promote how the increase of visitors could potentially boost the economy and help local businesses to thrive.

He said: "Visit Barrow isn’t about attracting holiday makers to the town and we know that our offer can’t compete with our neighbours in the Lake District, but we aren’t trying to compete with them.

"Barrow is different, we offer great value, a friendly welcome and an historical industrial town located on a rich and diverse coast. Our aim is to use Visit Barrow to attract more local people into the town and inform them about the events, attractions, culture and heritage that the town has to offer.

"We also aim to attract day visitors to the town by offering high quality events and showcasing the fabulous offer we already have at our disposal."

Barrow BID are also working with partners to put on a Soapbox Challenge, a Festival of Transport and more events in 2019.
