FAKE notes are being used in shops across south Cumbria, police have warned.
Since Thursday the force has had a large number of reports of fake notes passed in shops in Dalton, Coniston, Grange and Grasmere.
A spokeswoman said: "Please can you check all your notes that you take, even if they look genuine you maybe surprised. Please call 101 and report any incident to Cumbria Police.
"If you are in any doubt, refuse service."
