A MARKET stall has seen off the competition to be named the best decorated stall.

Jay Jay’s Sweet Treat’s stall, owned by Sharon Mulroy was judged to be the best decorated Christmas stall in Barrow Market by the Mayor Bill McEwan.

The mayor and the mayoress went around the entire market taking in all the many decorations on offer at the different stalls, but it was Sharon’s which stood out above the rest.

Mayor Bill McEwan said: “When walking around all the stalls it was just the one that jumped out at us.

“Sharon has done a fantastic job, she has even created a postbox so the children can all post their Christmas wish lists to Santa.

“It’s wonderful what she has done, putting out a positive message across the community.

“The vibe and atmosphere here today is buzzing and the market as always has my full support.”

Sharon Mulroy said: “It took a long time to get everything together, but with the help of St. Matthew’s Community Halls we got there.

“They have very kindly donated some of the decorations, which really helped, and many of the other decorations were made by myself and my husband. In return we are also raising funds to support them."

Mrs Mulroy said the inspiration came from her granddaughter.

“My four-year-old granddaughter, Sienna-Grace has been my inspiration," she said.

Jay Jay’s Sweets Treat’s stall sells a whole range of gifts, toys and confectionary as well as making their own wedding arrangements.

This year they have also created their own Christmas Eve boxes, which have already sold out.

Jacqui Armstrong, admin assistant at Barrow Market, said: “The mayor loved every stall and it was a really hard decision, but it was clear to see how much hard work Sharon had put in.

“It was great as well as there was a real sense of celebration in the market today, a real buzz and everyone was enjoying themselves.”
