A NEW generation of super savers was being created at Barrow's Thorncliffe School after the opening of a classroom bank.
The Mail, on January 17 in 1994, noted: "The Mid-Bank, a working branch of the Midland Bank, is run by students from year nine.
"Pupils take on the same roles as in a high street bank, from the manager to cashiers, with overall supervision being taken by year nine head, Ray Simpson, and maths teacher Keith Parkinson.
"The scheme is designed to give the pupils first-hand experience at running a bank.
"Staff at Barrow's Midland Branch gave the students training in how to run a bank."
Among the school's cashiers were Claire Fisher, Keir Arts, Chris Johnston and Joanne Rogan.
