A BARROW musician made his television debut as he found his Voice.

Jack Hawitt appeared on ITVs The Voice this weekend.

Mr Hawitt, 29, impressed the crowd with his rendition of Diamonds by Rihanna, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to secure a place in the next round of the competition.

Despite this disappointment, Mr Hawitt said he “absolutely loved” his time on the show.

Growing up on Barrow Island, Mr Hawitt moved to Roose with his family at 13 in 2003.

As a young boy in Barrow he was involved in a variety of amateur dramatics.

He left Barrow in 2005 to attend drama school in Leeds before moving to London in 2009 and spent time performing in We Will Rock You on the West End as well working between London and Norway, performing on cruise ships.

He said: “I was contacted to do a private audition, so went to the ITV studio in London back in April last year.

“Then I got the call to come back and perform again at the end of the summer.

“Finally I was told I’d been selected to appear on the blind auditions, filmed in October.

“I absolutely loved the whole experience and would definitely do it again.”

Mr Hawitt revealed that timing was perhaps against him when he went on to sing.

He said: “What the cameras didn’t show was that I was the last boy to sing and both Will.i.am and Jennifer Hudson both had no male spaces left on their teams.

“Will got up and spoke to me after the audition and explained why he didn’t turn and encouraged me to keep working.

“I was buzzing to get that positive feedback from Will.

Mr Hawitt also thanked everyone in Barrow who supported him.

He said: “The response from people in Barrow was overwhelming.

“I felt like everyone got behind me and had so many people reaching out.”
