KIDS share why it is important to do your bit for the environment.

Children from Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Barrow share why they think it is important to pick up rubbish after carrying out litter picks across the area with some of the rugby stars from Barrow Raiders.

Lilly said: “It’s important to pick up the litter because it puts animals in danger for example, small animals could get stuck in a can or small bags and injure themselves and possibly die.

"Another reason is because most people want a clean, healthy environment and littering isn’t what God wanted us to do to his creation.

"Hopefully, what we’ve done encourages more schools and others to help clean our environment and try make it the best it can be."

Ruby said: “It’s important to pick up litter because our area needs looking after. We are very proud of our streets and community and want to keep them looking their best.

“That’s why the Rubbish Raiders are here to clean up the litter - hopefully people will think the same way and follow the Rubbish Raiders and pick up their rubbish.”

Lola said: "I think it is important to tidy up rubbish because, for example: small animals could get seriously injured by the danger of a simple plastic bag; an animal will just think its food."

"Also the world is struggling with the problem of pollution in the ocean and everywhere . Just think to yourself, would you kill a simple baby creature? Animals die everyday through suffocation or getting plastic stuck inside them . Hopefully this will encourage you to look after your world and treat it with respect."

Saskia said: "As a child it’s important to pick up rubbish because all of the animals could get hurt and they could think its food when it’s actually not.

"It’s also important because it’s making the environment look horrid and we want our world to look clean. It also encourages seagulls and other animals to come and spread the rubbish further which just makes the problem worse."

Evan said: “The rubbish on the streets is really affecting our environment and the Rubbish Raiders are a great way to solve this issue.

“It was cool to have the rugby players come along and help with the pick up and made me feel like other people care about our area too.

“It’s also a fun way to spend time after school with your friends whilst doing something good. I would definitely recommend it to other schools.

“We only get one world we have to look after it.”
