A FLOOD warning and several alerts remain in place for Cumbria today.
The Environment Agency is closely monitoring the situation with staff checking defences and closing flood gates.
The warning - the second highest level of alert - covers the coastline from Gretna to Silloth including Port Carlisle, Skinburness and Rockcliffe.
Alerts, which mean flooding is possible, are in place for:
- Silloth to St Bees
- St Bees to Millom
- Rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt and Esk
- Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck
- Coast at Barrow
The flood warning says "a large tidal surge is expected to affect the foreshore as a result of high spring tides and strong winds".
Flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible, the warning states, between 9.45am and 1.45pm today.
Locations likely to be affected are Port Carlisle.
The Environment Agency said: "We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and closing flood gates.
"Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous and activate any property flood protection products you may have, such as flood barriers and air brick covers."
A landslip between Workington and Whitehaven has caused disruption to rail services.
