ONE of Ulverston's newest shops 30 years ago was the Mr Eater quality butchers at 13 Queen Street.
It was in a former chemists shop had been set up by Duncan Mayvers.
The Mail, on March 29 in 1989, noted: "Butchery manager John Kilburn makes the shop's own barbecue and tandoori chicken portions, pizzas ready to be cooked at home and delicious home cured bacon, burgers and pies."
The article noted: "The firm has built up a steady clientele from hotels, cafes and chip shops who all hanker after the 12 different types of home made pie, or the range of sausages provided."
The shop had a self-service section of pre-packed meats for customers in a hurry.
The article said: "The original chemists shop has been completely changed and an ultra-modern, ultra-hygienic little factory created at the back."
