Bowler: Marion Grave with Stan Laurel’s hat on its return to the Ulverston museum in June 1996
ONE of Stan Laurel’s hats came back to his home town of Ulverston in 1996 after being a star attraction at an exhibition commemorating 100 years of the cinema held at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television at Bradford.
The bowler hat had been worn by the movie star on his British tour in 1947 and was part of the display at Ulverston’s Laurel and Hardy Museum.
It had been presented to the museum in 1990 by William Pilkington, of Liverpool, who had bought it at auction.
Curator Bill Cubin told the Mail on June 21: “It was worn by Stan in Liverpool and on stage at the London Palladium.”
