THE proud winners of The Mail’s first ever Trader of the Week goes to one of Barrow's most treasured family butchers.

Norman and Susan Rhodes of N & S Rhodes Quality Butchers have been going strong since 1987 - an amazing 32 years.

Norman first learnt his trade as a young teenager working at the popular Tyson butchers which was then based in Dalton.

He then worked for Harold Wood butchers before starting out on his own with the loving support of his wife Susan.

They opened their first butchers in 1987, the same year that their son was born.

It was then in 1993 that they moved into Barrow's Market where they have remained ever since.

They offer a diverse array of different meats of the finest quality from beef, lamb, pork, poultry, game, cooked meats sausage and bacon.

They also provide eggs, pies and seasonings.

Norman said: "It's all about our customers and over the years we have had many loyal and wonderful customers supporting us.

"All our meat is local with a lot of our beef coming from Michael Cook's Hollin Hall farm based out at Greenodd.

"We also get our lamb from Ulverston's Auction Mart.

"It's great for people to buy local as we can then support local farmers."

Susan said: "We provide a very personal service and many of our customers here in the market just pop in for a good chat and it's great to be in the market as there is such a community feel."

It was their long standing dedication and devotion that saw them awarded as this weeks Trader of the Week, which seeks to highlight all the many fantastic and wonderful traders in the area.

Jacqui Armstrong, admin assistant at Barrow Market said: “They are an extremely popular couple in the market.

"They’re always polite and friendly along with their staff.

“Norman’s products are locally sourced and the highest quality.

“I am so happy they’ve been chosen for the very first Trader of the week award.”
