CREATING the world of the big screen Sci-fi movies in miniature — and with incredible attention to detail — was the aim for model enthusiasts at a specialist show held in Barrow in 1996.

The Mail on Monday, October 21, noted: “It was just like looking at film sets.

“That’s how one of the judge described the quality of work in Barrow first Science Fiction and Fantasy Model Exhibition.”

On show at Forum 28 were detailed models of characters such as Freddy Kruger from Nightmare On Elm Street and space vehicles such Star Trek’s USS Enterprise.

The Mail's article noted: “The exhibition, organised by the South Lakes Science Fiction and Fantasy Model Club, attracted more than 100 entries.

“About 180 adults and 150 children attended the event.”

Backer, Ken Williams, the William Street news agent, said: “I didn’t realise so many people were interested in this sort of thing.”
