A COMMUNITY fundraising campaign to leave a lasting legacy and tribute to a Walney mum is more than halfway towards its target.

The family of 39-year-old Stacy Lipscombe launched a JustGiving campaign in a bid to pay for a patients' garden to be built in the Intensive Care Unit at Furness General Hospital.

Mrs Lipscombe, mum to four-year-old Harper-Mae, spent the last three weeks of her life in ICU before she died in March.

The care staff gave her has been described by her mother Lesley Woodhouse as "absolutely amazing" and the family are keen to give something back to the team whose efforts allowed Mrs Lipscombe to marry her partner Matt just before she passed away.

A JustGiving page was set up, with a target of £1,000, which has now passed the £500 mark.

A separate donation of £500 has also been made directly to Matt Lipscombe to go towards the garden.

Donations made by family and friends at Mrs Lipscombe's funeral which took place at St Mary's Church on Walney will also go towards the campaign.

"Stacy would have really approved of our idea to help the hospital and show them how grateful we are for what they did," Mrs Woodhouse said.

Staff at ICU had already come up with the idea of a small garden area for the use of patients, their families, and staff, and a number of fundraising events are set to take place.

An 80s night will be held at Barrow Cricket Club on Friday June 14. Tickets cost £10 and are available from the charity office at Furness General Hospital.

Barrow theatre company CAST are hosting a concert at Barrow Island Community Hub on Saturday May 18 with proceeds from the event going towards the campaign.

Tickets for the concert cost £4 for adults and £2 for children and are available by contacting Caroline Barker via Facebook.
