A SPECIAL gig is soon to be held in memory of a former Barrow music legend who was once a part of one of the area's most successful bands.

Band members from Soul Survivors will be playing at Hawcoat Park Club, Barrow on Friday April 26 at 8pm in memory of Allan Davies who died in February.

Mr Davies was a former member of the Soul Survivors but 50 years ago he was also a founding member of Barrow band Chapter 5. Of the many Furness bands in the 1960’s who dreamed of cutting records and finding fame, Chapter Five got the closest to the big time.

Ray Guselli, formerly the guitarist for the Barrow band Patents Pending will also be playing guitar on the night.

Mr Guselli said: "About 18 months ago I was asked to take some promotional photographs of a great local band, “Soul Survivors”.

"When I heard and saw this band I thought “they are brilliant; great musicians, a great sound and once again showcasing some of the incredible talent Barrow and Furness continues to offer.

"Most importantly, I met Allan for the first time and our mutual interest in guitars and music meant that we got on so well: as if we had known each other for years. I now know that everyone who met Allan would share this feeling and recognise what a really nice person he was: an absolute gentleman.

"The band felt that something should be done as a tribute to Al and it was an honour to be asked to participate."

Tickets are £10 each and will be on sale from the club, band members, and the R and T Music shop in Dalkeith Street.
