A MUM hosted a special event for mothers and children to raise money for mental health charities.

Dalton mum-of-two Danielle Aspinwall organised the day at Barrow Raiders' Craven Park to give back after they supported her.

It raised money for Mind In Furness and Mind Ulverston, who helped Mrs Aspinwall when she was struggling with perinatal depression.

She joined the Connecting Mums group run by Mind and they enabled her to see she was not alone and to start building her confidence again.

Mrs Aspinwall, a jewellery designer who set up her own brand Yappers Chappers Designs, also sold some of her handmade jewellery at the event.

Yappers Chappers Designs is based out of the St Mary’s Furniture Warehouse.

“I wanted to bring all the people who have supported me together- plus raise money for Mind," she said.

“They do some great things to support women and mums."

The event offered mums a chance to sit down and relax while talking to other mums as well having entertainment on hand for the children.

A number of businesses and organisations from across the area came to support it..

They included Slimming world, Evissa Hair and Beauty, Tropic with Claire Burns and Rachael Roberts, Usborne Books with Siobhan Gilbert, Marvellous Events, Naked Skincare, Mind In Furness and Mind Ulverston (Connecting Mums) and Barrow Raiders Supporters Trust.

The total raised was £514.

In addition to this Barclays agreed to match the amount raised meaning the grand total raised for Mind is £1,028.

Barrow and Furness MP John Woodcock was among those who attended the event.

He said: “Hats off to Danielle and the team for organising this event.

“It's so good to see people come together to raise money for mental health and talking more about mental health.

“As well as raising money, events like these really help that.”
