Blain Marwood saved Barrow Islands blushes with an opportunist try four minutes from time against Woolston in the Conference second division at the John Jefferson Park.

The elusive Marwood latched onto an Ian Irvine kick on the last tackle to dot the ball down to put Island ahead at 32-30.

However, the Island almost threw the game away as they were in a commanding position at 28-12 mid way through the second half.

The Warrington side hit them with three converted tries to lead 28-30 with Marwood’s killer blow and a Max Moore last minute penalty making it 34-30.

Island were off to a flyer with Blain Marwood and Nathan Sneesby sending Aide Wright storming in at the corner, Brad Marwood converting.

Sam Jones went in for an unconverted try before another sweeping attack paid dividends.

Brandon Corrie Blain Marwood and Aide Wright powered to the line for Wright to feed Blain Marwood who crossed the white-wash, brother Brad converting 16-0.

Woolston hit back with creative play earning them a brace of tries both converted 16-12.

Island then stepped up a gear adding tries through Blain Marwood and Adam Ford, Brad Marwood converting 28-12.

Then it all went wrong for the home side who conceded eighteen points to go behind for the first time at 28-30.

Island refused to cave in only for Alister McEwan to lose the ball over the visitor’s line.

But one more raid paid off as Blain Marwood swooped on Irvine’s kick to notch the winning try.

In division three Millom lost their way in the second half at Seaton.

The Wooybacks trailed 18-16 at the break but failed to add to their tally while the west Cumbrians ran in 30 unanswered points.

Tries for Millom came from Hadley Thompson, Jack Proctor and Jonathan Hodgson with Lee Postlethwaite adding two goals.

In the Barrow league Barrow Island defeated Hindpool 42-0 while Dalton were 46-8 winners at Millom.

It was a good weekend for Barrow Island with their under 12s beating Ells 12-10 in the Cumbria cup final.
