A BARROW boxer has won the North West division championship title at 86kg after following his latest victory in Blackburn.

Ethan Greer won the title on Saturday 24 after competing in the 81-86kg category.

The requirement for the tournament was that each fighter could only have under 20 bouts in their career, with Ethan having 17.

His last match saw him win each round to claim the decision win.

Being at the club since the age of ten, Ethan has been a dedicated member of the Barrow Amateur Boxing Club over the years.

His coach Jeff Moses said: “It was a development championship, where each fighter must have a minimum of five bouts and not over 20 in the senior developments.

“He is competing in 81-86kg and he’s had 17 matches.

“He won by decision and won every single round.

“Ethan has been at the club since he was ten years old, and now he’s 22. He's been with us for a long time and he’s a great boxer. He’s also recently become a father.

“The bout was held in Blackburn at the Championships sport centre. It was a competition where you would box your way through all the champions in the whole of England, and that’s what he’s done in the North West division.

“Next, he’ll be up against the Midlands or Yorkshire, and then the national finals. The best way to look at it is on a map of England you are leap frogging through the divisions of champions.

“He’s the champion of the North West, and then he’ll go against other champions from the Midlands and Yorkshire.

“You’re boxing the best of the best, and that’s the title in your weight division.

“It’s a massive accomplishment.

“As his coach I’m very proud. He’s been with us since he was little, from junior to youth. Now he’s excelling as a senior.”
