A rugby club in Cumbria has thanked local residents for the support in its fundraiser - but has asked for one last push.

Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club has been raising money throughout 2024 to replace its ageing floodlight system, with the target set at £33,228.

At the time of writing, public backing has seen over £24,000 come in, though time is now ticking to reach the lofty goal.

The club said: "It is such a staggering amount - being 72% of our total is both truly humbling and genuinely gratefully received.

"We are now focused and concentrated on the next ten days because our Crowdfunder page is due to shortly expire, albeit we have requested an extension."

The club is hoping to maximise the match funding opportunity given by the Aviva community fund before this financial boost runs out.

"If you have been contemplating a donation, please know the time to jump on board is now," said the club.

"This last final push is really important to get the campaign over the line and ensure we provide the facilities for the children of the local communities at our club."

The project is being organised by John Ladell and Gareth Gore, who are currently the coaches for the under-14 and under-15 sides respectively.

Supporters, workers and volunteers at the rugby club have banded together over recent months to raise money through various and unique ways.

In February, three members of the under-14 side tackled a 100-mile cycling ascent in the Lake District to boost the donations coming in.

The club added: "We have also just had a successful bag pack run by Michelle Norris and we've been supported by our mini and youth teams.

"We then had a cake stall at the weekend organised by Charlotte Metcalfe - both of these events raised just shy of £1000 in total."

The club is nearly there in reaching the massive target and, for the first time, the try line is in sight.
