Barrow was the latest stop for one couple visiting all 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland.

The volunteer crew welcomed Jules and Debs Coles, who are distributing what are known as “Betty’s Pots”.

This is a fundraising idea launched by the late Betty Frith, of Hertford, who came up with the idea of filling empty mini jam pots with five pence pieces.

Jules and Debs have been busy raising funds to fill the pots and are leaving each lifeboat station visited with three filled pots.

A spokesperson from the lifeboat station commented: "All the volunteers at Barrow RNLI wish Jules and Debs safe travels and we thank them for their tremendous fundraising efforts."

The couple have set a target to raise £10,000 for the RNLI and have been inspired to do so following the loss of Jules’ father Trevor last year.

Trevor was described as being a great supporter of the RNLI and he was also able to raise £10,000 for lifeboat funds back in 1988.

His efforts led to the creation of the ‘The Marlborough Club’, an inshore boat manned by the RNLI.

Adding further inspiration and motivation for the fundraiser, Jules’ best friend Alan Perks also passed away last year too.

Both Alan and Trevor are remembered with their names on two lifeboats through the RNLI’s 'Launch a Memory' scheme.

Barrow was the 45th lifeboat station visited by Jules and Debs since the beginning of the year.

Their journey around the UK and Ireland will see them cover some 33,000 miles travelling by car, along with 10 flights, 33 ferries and one steam train ride.

At the time of writing, the couple were just shy of reaching the £2000 mark, with there still being plenty of time to show your support.
