Holker Old Boys, who parted company with manager Guy Heffernan during the week, broke their duck in Division One North of the North West Counties League in emphatic style by hammering Atherton LR 5-0 at Rakesmoor on Saturday.

Joe Bradbury opened the scoring on the half-hour mark before Chris Wraighte doubled the home side’s lead just before half time.

Nath Reid, Wraighte and Robbie Wallace added further goals in the second half to give the home side their first three-point haul of the season.

West Lancashire Premier League action took place at Park Vale, but Vickerstown unfortunately lost 4-3 to Thornton Cleveleys. Danny Cummings (2) and Danny Keenan the Vickerstown marksmen, as the hosts fell short.

In Division One, GSK Ulverston Rangers lost 4-2 at Kendal County, with Zach Milby scoring both of Ulverston’s efforts.

In the second round of the Lancashire Amateur Cup, a host of local sides were in action and produced a mixed bag of results.

Askam United, who also parted company with their manager in midweek after dismissing David Tomaszko, put their league form to one side and dispatched of Mostonians 6-0.

Bradley Jackson scored a hat trick for rejuvenated Askam, with Callum Rayner (2) and Dec Baines also on target.

Walney Island came from behind to handsomely beat Ashtonians 5-2, as Matt Lockley helped himself to a hat-trick. Josh Gay and Joe Pearson struck the other two goals.

Crooklands Casuals thrashed Wigan Rovers 7-1, with Ben Phizacklea bagging a hat trick and David Graves (2), Dave Mansergh and Kev Edwards rounding off the scoring. Dalton United lost 3-1 at home to Cartmel & District, Robbie McMurdo on target for their consolation.

Furness Cavaliers are through to the next round, though, after a 4-2 home win over Ormskirk after Liam Kennedy, Marc Curtis, Jordan Hughes and Jamie Beddoes all got on the scoresheet.

Kirkby lost 4-2 at home to Lostock St Gerards, while Barrow Celtic were defeated 3-2 against Ainsdale & Stockport, Conner Smith finding the net on both occasions for Celtic.

Hawcoat Park were given a walkover when the side they were supposed to play, Moston Brook, couldn’t travel and the same happened to Haverigg United, who were scheduled to face Ossy St Marys.

Millom were 2-0 up against Longshaw with half an hour left to play when the referee called a halt to proceedings. The official had sent two Longshaw players off, but they refused to leave the pitch amid chaotic scenes.
