Barrow-born Georgia Stanway has won her first senior call-up to the England women’s squad, rewarding her stunning recent form.

The 19-year-old Manchester City striker has scored six goals in her last three games in the FA Women’s Super League, including a hat-trick in the Blues’ away match against Brighton.

In front of the watching England women’s manager Phil Neville last Friday, Stanway scored with a stunning long-range strike to put City ahead in their 1-1 draw with Reading at the Etihad Campus.

She could now potentially win her first cap in the Lionesses’ friendlies against Austria and Sweden next month.

Stanway is one of three uncapped players named in the 23-strong squad, alongside her City colleague, goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck, and former USA under-23 striker Chioma Ubogagu.

It is the latest achievement in what is proving to be a breakout year for the teenager, who was joint-top scorer at the Women’s Under-20 World Cup during the summer.

Her six goals in France helped England to finish third in the tournament, their best-ever finish.

The Lionesses will travel to Austria, who they’ll play next Thursday, before hosting Sweden at Rotherham’s New York Stadium three days later.
