Will Dolman scored a hat-trick, as Windermere men’s 1st XI picked up their second win in a row in the North League Division Two West by thrashing bottom club University of Liverpool 8-0 on Saturday.

Each of Dolman’s goals came from penalty corners, with his first opening the scoring early on, as ‘Mere looked to quickly build on the previous week’s victory at Lytham St Annes.

Adam Whitehead doubled the hosts’ lead with a powerful shot off his back foot into the bottom corner before birthday boy Danny Squires had his shot diverted into the net by Tom Whitehead.

Windermere turned around for the second half 3-0 in front and they showed no mercy in the second half, with Dolman completing his hat-trick off two more short corners.

The scoreline continued to be made all the more emphatic, as Adam Whitehead struck his second of the afternoon with an absolute rocket into the bottom corner.

Tom Whitehead then also made it a double to score ‘Mere’s seventh and a one-sided contest was rounded off by Jake Sorenson deflecting Ed Brownell’s shot over the ‘keeper’s head.

The result lifts Windermere up to ninth in the table, but they’ll have a tough task in making it three wins on the trot when they travel to fourth-placed Didsbury Northern 2nd XI on Saturday.

It was also a successful weekend for Windermere men’s 2nd XI, as they picked up a rare 2-1 away win at Preston 5th XI to move up to third in Division Five North North of the North West League.

All the goals came late in the game although only outstanding goalkeeping by Preston’s captain kept Mere at bay for most of the game.

Only ten minutes remained when Archie Dalzell dispatched a rebound with a solid shot to finally break the deadlock, but almost straight from the restart, the visitors gave the ball away and Preston equalised.

Windermere’s winning goal when they countered following a Preston short corner, with the hosts’ stick-stopper missing the ball, which was quickly passed to captain Jason Balmer.

He then accelerated into the into the circle and lobbed the hosts’ goalkeeper to crown another fine all-round team performance by ‘Mere 2s, who host Formby 4th XI this weekend.

However, it was an afternoon to forget for Windermere women’s 1st XI, whose losing streak was extended to six matches, as they were smashed 11-0 by Rossall in the Lancashire Central League Premier Division.

‘Mere were overwhelmed by the team just above them in the table and were 5-0 down by half-time, with Rossall’s goals coming from Tracey Housley, Emma Gilfoyle, Sam Evans and Gemma Nicole (2).

The second half was also one-way traffic, with the rampant hosts running up a huge total through further strikes from Debbie Slater (2), Samantha Wilde, Nicole, Gilfoyle and Evans.

Sally Harrison did succeed in testing the Rossall keeper when ‘Mere managed to get forward, but the result is definitely one to put behind them as they look to regroup for Saturday’s away game at Lancaster University.
