THE annual inter-league showdown between the Barrow Monday League and the Barrow Friday League takes place at the British Legion Club this Friday.

The match features five games of snooker, five games of billiards, nine games of darts, five games of cribbage and five games of welch don.

In doing so, the two leagues raise money for charities through sponsorship from the various clubs in each league and other sponsors from the area.

This year’s main sponsors are the host club, Steve Gregory of Anixter Ltd, Steve Wilcock of Lakeland Leisure, and Norman and Sue Rhodes of Barrow Meat Market.

As usual, cheque presentations will be made to three local charities, with the competition having raised close to £23,000 for good causes over the past 23 years.

This year, Barrow & District Disability Association will be presented with one for £500, while Hospital Equipment Funds for Furness and the Tuesday Handicapped Club will receive £200 each.

Spectators are welcome to come and watch the matches, which get under way at 7.15pm. There will be a raffle and a tombola too, with donations greatly appreciated.

Last year’s inter-league meeting at the Greengate Club saw the Monday League triumph 17-12 thanks to wins in the darts and both card matches.

However, the Friday League had the better of it in the cue sports.
