THE clash between British Legion and the club’s A-team in the latest round of Barrow Friday League fixtures saw the latter come out on top in three of the four disciplines.

Legion A showed why they are top of the snooker standings with a 3-0 victory on the green baize, starting with John Tyreman edging out Mike Smith 66-53 in the top man’s game.

Billy Burns eased past Legion captain Alf Carruthers 58-7 and Dave Simpson’s 56-19 win over Jack Arnold completed the whitewash.

Defending billiards champions Legion’s sole triumph came in the other cue sport, where they remain top of the table by a single point after a 2-1 win over their clubmates.

Allan Edmondson and Kevin Quinn won the race to 100 against Steve Hetherington and Tony Macmillan respectively, while Legion A’s win came when Paul Fieldhouse beat Colin Taylor to make it six consecutive victories for him.

Legion A were totally dominant at darts, romping to a 7-0 win thanks to Alan Fraser, Mala McCoy (117), Hetherington (123), Simpson, Tony and Dave Macmillan, and Shaun McPoland.

And a 6-2 win at welch don saw Legion A top the card-game standings too, completing an excellent night’s work.

Vickerstown’ CCs Josh Francis was the week’s only treble winner and he got the ball rolling by beating Joe O’Leary on the black in the snooker match at Navy B.

However, Andy Charnley and Dave Wilkie secured a 2-1 win for Navy by beating Peter Scott and Paul Fitzpatrick respectively.

Captain Gareth Willis picked up the Cricketers’ only win at billiards too, beating Dave Simpson, with John Clamp and Paul Kyle overcoming Scott and David Holmes respectively as Navy won 2-1 again.

Every game went down to a shoot-out for the double in the darts, but it was Navy B who triumphed 5-2 thanks to wins from Ian Large (2x100), Ian Goodwin, O’Leary and Charnley (100).

The welch don games went the way of Vickerstown though as they clinched the highest points total of the night with a 7-5 win.

In the other match of the night, Dave Kewley and Nick Wilkes earned Roose Cons a 2-1 win on the snooker table at home to Barrow Football Supporters Club.

The billiards went the way of the visitors 2-1, with debutant Mike Fletcher winning by one point and Dennis Plant first to 100 in his match.

Fletcher (137), Mike Edwards, Barry Butterworth, Alan Bonner, Plant (121) and Steve Martin (2x100) secured a 6-1 win for BFSC at darts, and Roose edged the welch don 6-5.
