Barrow AFC midfielder Jason Taylor is hoping the players will be able to relax a little more after consigning their six-game losing streak to the past.

Last Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Aldershot Town was a timely boost to the Bluebirds’ confidence ahead of tonight’s visit of promotion-chasing Wrexham to Holker Street.

A change of formation proved to be key against the Shots, with the 3-5-2 shape fielded by manager Ian Evatt working a treat in making his side a much tougher proposition.

The message in the build-up to the clash against the Dragons has been ‘more of the same, please’ with AFC determined that the much-needed result in Hampshire was the start of much better things ahead.

Taylor said: “We came in on Monday morning and had a bit of a cool-down session, trying to rest and be ready to go again in trying to get a win in front of our supporters at home.

“The win on Saturday has maybe taken some of the pressure off us because it always gets a bit edgy when you’re losing games.

“No-one wants to be losing games and it puts pressure on yourselves, so hopefully that result has released a bit of that pressure and we can go and string a few results together now.”

Wrexham travel up to Barrow third in the National League and making a real push for a return to the Football League for the first time in just over a decade.

Their promotion push suffered a blow last weekend, as they were defeated 2-0 at home by leaders Leyton Orient, but Taylor doesn’t feel this will change the nature of the Bluebirds’ task.

He said: “Wrexham have had a really good start to the season, they don’t concede too many goals and we’ve got to make sure that we are all at it again.

“We need to start off right, make sure we keep a clean sheet and take the three points. They’re just coming off the back of a defeat, but I’ve heard that they played quite well, so I don’t think they’ll be fighting too much.

“They’ll want to bounce back straight away, so we need to make sure that we’re all at it from the off for the whole game.”

Taylor is pleased with what he’s seen so far from new midfield colleague Kemy Agustien, with their partnership allowing John Rooney to thrive further up the field at Aldershot.

“You can see Kemy’s technical ability is ridiculous and once he gets fitter from playing week in, week out, he’ll be a real asset for us,” he said.

Barrow’s excellent performance at Aldershot has been recognised by captain Josh Granite and Rooney being named in the National League’s Team of the Week.
