Despite putting up a fantastic fight against fourth-placed Garstang, South Lakes ladies 1st XI were beaten 5-1 in the North League Division Two North West last Saturday.

South Lakes had a great start, managing to hold on to possession in the early stages, only for Garstang to score their first goal 20 minutes into the first half.

Minutes later, South Lakes made a break and Jenny Clayton managed to score to make it 1-1, but with minutes to go to half-time, Garstang restored their lead to go in 2-1 ahead at the break.

Lakes held their own and fought hard but with another unlucky break from Garstang, the hosts extended their advantage.

Within the last 15 minutes, Garstang were awarded two short corners and scored from both to give the final score a flattering look.

Despite these loses South Lakes are still confident that their hard work will eventually pay off and they host Liverpool Sefton 2nd XI this weekend.

South Lakes men’s 1st XI weren’t any more successful, as they were heavily beaten 5-0 by Golborne in the North West League Division Three North, with Harry Tomkins scoring twice for the visitors and their other goals came from Patrick Dixon, Ieuan Williams and Dave Moorfield.

The men’s 2nd XI were also unable to trouble the scorers, as they were defeated 3-0 by Leyland and Chorley 2nd XI in Division Five North North.
