Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt believes Jacob Blyth is starting to show why he brought him back into competitive football after the striker’s successful comeback during the last week.

Blyth hadn’t been attached to a club for almost a year after being released by Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in August 2017, having suffered a succession of injuries north of the border.

But he became Evatt’s first signing after he took charge during the summer, only for his bad luck to continue, with a dislocated shoulder and another unspecified problem forcing him to play catch-up, fitness-wise.

The 26-year-old was finally able to make his first start at Aldershot last Saturday, when he grew in confidence the longer the match wore on and troubled Wrexham’s defence during the goalless draw against the Dragons at Holker Street on Tuesday night.

Evatt said: “I think he’s shown in these two games why I signed him because of the outlet he gives us.

“All of a sudden, we’ve become a different proposition and people aren’t saying we’re a soft touch anymore.

“We’ve got a strong, physical look through the spine of our team, which is important, and I think him and Tyler, their relationship will blossom as the season progresses.

“He’s getting fitter and stronger and he’s going to be a huge player for us in the second half of the season.”
