A 3-0 whitewash of Roose Cons helped British Legion A move four points clear at the top of the Barrow Friday League snooker standings.

Billy Burns got them off to a good start by beating Lee Majors, followed by John Tyreman coming from behind to edge out Dave Kewley 46-44. Dave Simpson then wrapped up the win as Nick Wilkes conceded with the colours still on the table.

Legion A enjoyed a 2-1 win at billiards too, but it was Roose’s Peter Roberts who won the first match by narrowly overcoming Tony Macmillan by two points.

The hosts took victory though as Alan Fraser and Paul Fieldhouse won the race to 100 against Mike Irving and Ray Cooney respectively.

A 5-2 win for Legion A at darts saw them stay joint-top of the standings in that discipline thanks to Keith Moscrop, Mala McCoy (121, 100), Shaun McPoland (140), Tony Macmillan (101) and Dave Macmillan (100).

And they completed a perfect night by recording an 8-0 win at welch don, all games finishing 2-1 in Legion A’s favour to put them seven points clear at the top of the table game standings.

Barrow Football Supporters Club stayed in contention near the top of the snooker standings thanks to a 2-1 win away to Navy B.

Josh Howarth and Adam Cook got the wins for the visitors, with Andy Charnley replying for Navy.

It was a different story at billiards though as Navy won 3-0. Paul Kyle and John Clamp both won comfortably, but Dave Simpson had to battle before edging Mike Fletcher out 100-97.

Navy continued that winning form on the oche, winning the darts 5-2 with Ian Goodwin (2x100), Dave Rafferty (100), Chris Kirkby (2x100), Simpson (120) and Andy Charnley (121)on form.

But BSFC hit back at welch don, edging the match 5-4.

The other fixture of the night saw Vickerstown CC win 2-1 in the snooker at home to British Legion, with Josh Francis and Jimmy Allen their victors.

Last year’s billiards champions Legion beat the Cricketers by the same scoreline at billiards, with Allan Edmondson and Kevin Quinn winning the race to 100 for the hosts.

On the oche, Vickerstown edged out a close-fought darts match as Gareth Willis, Brian Tucker (2x140), Francis and Peter Scott took wins.

And the hosts were on a roll in the welch don, securing seven points.

This week sees the league revert to individual club competitions.

Next week’s cup fixtures: BFSC v Vickerstown CC, British Legion v Navy B, Roose Cons v British Legion A.
