EUAN Turner tackled the son of a former world champion when he made his debut for Barrow ABC last Saturday.
Turner was up against D Shepherd, whose father Charles won the IBO super-featherweight title in 2000.
And he pushed his opponent all the way on the Wigton ABC show, only for Shepherd to get the nod from the judges via a split decision.
Senior Novice Championship finalist Paul O’Reilly was in action for Barrow too, suffering a points defeat to R Patterson.
“It was fair judging, but both bouts will be rematches in January on the show in Grange,” said Barrow head coach Jeff Moses.
