Barrow AFC will be looking to extend the stay at Holker Street of midfielder Kemy Agustien, who has made a big impression since arriving at the club last month.

The 32-year-old Curacao international is currently signed on until January and has added some much-needed experience and knowhow in the middle of the park for the Bluebirds.

Agustien played the full 90 minutes of their 1-0 home victory over Maidstone last Saturday, which was his fifth appearance for AFC, coming one week after he scored his first goal for them, at Braintree.

He actually had a hand in their winning goal, although in truth that was down to a howler from Stones’ goalkeeper Ross Worner, who allowed Agustien’s tame effort from 25 yards to slip from his grasp.

Barrow manager Ian Evatt said: “We’d like to keep him, but it has to be right for both parties. We are having conversations and at the minute it looks positive, so fingers crossed we can get something over the line.”

The former Swansea and Brighton man had developed a very promising midfield partnership with Jason Taylor, as part of the new 3-4-1-2 formation that had brought the Bluebirds much success in the last few weeks.

Unfortunately, that pairing was broken up during the last weekend, with Taylor having to come off with only 23 minutes played, thanks to a stray Maidstone elbow that knocked out four of his teeth, but thankfully didn’t break his jaw.

However, Steve Jennings, who has had to be patient for his opportunities this season, was able to step from the bench and ensure AFC continued to come out on top in the engine room battle.

Evatt said: “It’s just the way it’s been going for us this season, with injuries - we had Josh Granite missing with a toe injury that hopefully we’re getting to the bottom of.

“Jason has been immense for us and he would be a big miss if he is out long-term, but I must say Steven Jennings was outstanding.

“He marshalled the team really well, he showed his experience and made good football decisions at the right time.

“We were hopeful that it wasn’t a broken jaw for Jason and that is was just his teeth – he’s not the best-looking lad in the world anyway, Jason, so he won’t mind missing a few teeth, but no, he’s been brilliant for us.”
