Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt is not ruling out a play-off push, after the way his side have revitalised their season in recent matches.

Three weeks ago, such a suggestion looked a long way off, as the Bluebirds had drifted down to 17th in the National League table and only three points above the relegation zone, thanks to a run of five straight defeats in the division.

But they are no longer looking nervously over their shoulders as three wins in the last four games, plus an encouraging draw with high-flyers Wrexham, have lifted them into the top half.

With just under half of their league campaign left, AFC are 12th and have an eight-point gap to bridge on seventh-placed Gateshead if they are to gate-crash the play-offs.

Evatt said: “That’s my ambition, that’s my aim and we’ve got some excellent players - once they’re all available you’ve seen that I’m more or less spoilt for choice.

“It’s no coincidence that since most people have been available, we’ve picked up our run of form.

“If we can keep our key players fit and on the pitch and healthy, keep the competition for places, there’s no reason why we can’t challenge for the play-offs.

“The fans turned up again on Saturday and supported us really well in the bad weather, so stick with us, keep coming and keep cheering the lads on because they’re really grateful for your support.”
