Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt has confirmed that he is looking to bring in another striker after Tyler Smith was recalled from his loan by Sheffield United last week.

Evatt only found out two days before last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against FC Halifax Town in the FA Trophy that he would be without the services of his top scorer, who notched 11 goals during his time at Holker Street.

Apart from his goalscoring, it’s his movement and pace up front, which was a constant menace to opponents in the National League, that is really going to be missed.

Whether AFC will dip into the loan market again in looking to replace Smith remains to be seen, while Evatt is confident that the forwards he still has at his disposal can do a good job alongside Jacob Blyth during the Christmas period.

Evatt said: “We need to bring someone in, for competition, but we’ve still got Rhys Turner and Jack Hindle there, who are very good players in their own right.

“Tyler was fantastic for us, he has developed no end, especially towards the back end of his loan spell.

“He was starting to hold the ball up well, his attitude, as I’ve said many times, is fantastic, but I’m really pleased for him.

“At the end of the day, he’s a Sheffield United player and I have to thank him for what he’s done and we wish him all the best, but we’ve got to move on.”
