IT will be a welcome return to action for the Furness Premier League’s teams tomorrow after the Christmas break – not least because the last round of fixtures was decimated by the weather.

The final weekend before the festive period across all three divisions saw games either postponed or abandoned due to torrential rain, so no doubt everyone eager to get their boots back on tomorrow.

The resumption of the FPL brings with it the resumption of some intriguing title battles, not least in the Premier Division where Kirkby United and Bootle have opened up a lead over the chasing pack.

Leaders Kirkby travel to bottom side Furness Cavaliers reserves, while second-placed Bootle are at home to Swarthmoor Social, one of the sides aiming to haul themselves into contention.

Croftlands Park and Vickerstown reserves, who lead the chasing teams, are away to Britannia and Walney Island reserves respectively.

In Division One, leaders British Legion travel to Vickerstown A aiming to keep their noses in front of Barrow Wanderers – away to Millom A – and Bridge United, who host Furness Rovers reserves.

The Division Two title race is very much a four-way battle, but Holker Old Boys A, Kirkby reserves and Barrow Wanderers reserves all have a chance to steal a march on Ulverston Rangers reserves, who do not have a game.
