NAVY B are the winners of this season’s Barrow Friday League Knockout Cup after beating Vickerstown Cricket Club 17-11 in the final round of matches.

A 3-0 whitewash at snooker set Navy on course for the victory, which was kicked off with Joe O’Leary beating the home side’s Josh Francis 72-14.

Andy Charnley took a very tight game against Paul Fitzpatrick, winning 42-34, but the game of the night was a close encounter between Jimmy Allen and Dave Wilkie, with only one point difference in the final result after Wilkie potted a crucial black ball to win 60-59.

The billiards result went Navy’s way as well thanks to captain John Clamp and Brian Sharp winning the race to 100 in their matches after Gareth Willis had got Vickerstown off the mark in the first game.

The Cricketers had the edge on the oche, winning 5-2. Brian Tucker led the way with a ton score and a 50 knock-up, backed up with wins for Jimmy Allen, Paul Fitzpatrick, Josh Francis (100) and Peter Scott (100).

Navy B just had the edge at welch don though, emerging 5-4 victors. Even though Wilkie and Dave Simpson lost the final game 2-1, that point proved enough for the team to clinch the cup.

They edged out British Legion A by one point in the final standings, despite the runners-up winning 19-11 in their final match away to Barrow Football Supporters Club.

Last year’s cup winners made the perfect start with a 3-0 win at snooker thanks to captain John Tyreman, Billy Burns and Dave Simpson.

Two wins at billiards pulled some points back for BFSC as Jimmy Wilson and their top man both won the race to 100, with Tony Macmillan getting one back for Legion A.

Legion A won the darts 5-2, led by Keith Moscrop and Alan Fraser winning thanks to knock-ups of 60 and 99 respectively.

A 2-1 win at welch don wrapped up the best result of the night for Legion A, but unfortunately for them it was not enough to retain their crown.

In the other match of the night, Roose Cons were 17-12 victors away to British Legion, despite Kevin Quinn being the week’s only treble winner for the hosts.

All three snooker matches went to Roose thanks to Nick Wilkes, Lee Majors and captain Dave Kewley.

Quinn and Allan Edmondson secured a 2-1 win for Legion at billiards, with Rob Chissim repying for Roose.

There was a 4-3 win for Cons at darts, while the honours were even at 5-5 in welch don.

This week sees individual club competitions take place.
