IT will be a big day at Rating Lane this Sunday as Barrow Island Ladies welcome the 2018 Women’s Super League champions for a pre-season friendly.

Wigan Warriors, who are coached by Ulverstonian Amanda Wilkinson, will provide the opposition for Island’s first hit-out of the year as part of their preparations for the 2019 Women’s Championship season.

The friendly is only one part of the day though as Wigan’s coaches will be putting on a special hour-long training session for girls aged between 12 and 16.

That will take place from 12pm to 1pm at Rating Lane and is open to all girls regardless of their experience, with the match itself getting under way at 2pm.

It comes just over a week after Barrow Raiders played Wigan’s men in a pre-season match, holding the Super League champions to an 18-18 draw at Craven Park.

Admission for Island’s match against Wigan is £2 for adults, with children getting in for free.

Anyone interested in attending the coaching session should contact Michelle Larkin on 07445 983507.

The club are still looking to recruit new players ahead of the 2019 season too.

Anyone aged 16 and over is welcome to join the team, whatever their level of experience.

Training is on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8pm. For more information, contact Michelle or visit facebook.com/barrowislandladiesrugby.
