Lindal Moor could have a Test Match cricketer playing for them this season after batsman Oshada Fernando was named in Sri Lanka’s squad for their upcoming tour of South Africa.

Fernando will be Lindal’s professional player for the 2019 season after the 26-year-old agreed to join as a player-coach last October.

His call-up comes after a stunning run of form in his homeland with Chilaw Marians, for whom he struck a career-best 234 against Colts Cricket Club just over a week ago.

Fernando’s sensational knock came off just 209 balls and included an astonishing 17 sixes, and it came after he had made 109 in Chilaw’s first innings during the same match in Colombo.

The two tons were his fifth and sixth centuries of what has turned out to be a magnificent season for Fernando, who has piled up 1,228 first-class runs in recent months.

Sri Lanka will be hoping he can replicate his prolific domestic form on the international stage as they have struggled for runs during their current tour of Australia, which followed a 3-0 whitewash at the hands of England on their own soil.

Their two-match Test series against South Africa gets underway on February 13 at Kingsmead in Durban before concluding at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth the following week, preceding five ODIs and three T20s between the two teams.
