A WHITEWASH of Navy Club B saw British Legion A surge seven points clear at the top of the snooker standings in the latest round of Barrow Friday League matches.

John Tyreman led the way with a 61-22 win over Joe O’Leary, while Dave Simpson and Billy Burns beat Dave Wilkie and Andy Charnley respectively.

Clubmates British Legion, currently second in the snooker competition, scored a 2-1 win at home to Roose Cons, but it was the visitors who struck first as Nick Wilkes defeated Alf Carruthers.

Mike Smith and Jack Arnold secured the win for Legion’s first-team though, defeat Dave Kewley and Lee Majors respectively.

Legion are two points ahead of Barrow Football Supporters Club in the standings, who only played two matches in their encounter at Vickerstown Cricket Club.

Both saw the Soccer Bar team emerge victorious though, with Jimmy Christie getting the better of Jimmy Allen 55-42 and Steve Redpath beating Peter Scott 70-49.

Defending billiards champions Legion stayed on course to defend their crown with a 3-0 victory over Roose Cons, which keeps them four points clear of clubmates Legion A in the standings.

Tony Norman, Kevin Quinn and Allan Edmondson – who made breaks of 33 and 22 – all won the race to 100 in their respective matches with Rob Chissim, Ray Cooney and Peter Roberts.

It is getting very congested behind them though, with Legion A, Navy B and Vickerstown all level on 19 points in second.

Legion A drew level with Navy thanks to a 3-0 away success. Steve Hetherington and Brian Sharp secured the win, followed by Paul Fieldhouse edging Ian Large out by two points.

Vickerstown kept themselves in contention with a 2-1 win over BFSC. The week’s only treble-winner, Gareth Willis, and Scott secured the victory, while Jimmy Wilson replied for the visitors.

The battle of the top two in the darts saw Legion A defeat Navy B 4-3 to stay top of the table.

Captain Shaun McPoland, Keith Moscrop (125, 2x100), Alan Fraser (100) and Mala McCoy were the winners for the away side. Dave Rafferty, Andy Charnley (140) and Chris Kirkby (120, 2x100) got Navy’s wins.

Vickerstown won 4-3 against BSFC thanks to Willis (3x100), Brian Tucker playing twice (140, 2x100) and Bob Crosthwaite.

Legion beat Roose Cons 5-2 as Edmondson, Mike Smith (123), Colin Taylor, captain Tony Woodward and Tony Norman all won.

A 7-4 win over Navy B at welch don saw Legion A move 12 points clear of their rivals. Meanwhile, Legion scored an 8-2 triumph over Roose Cons, and Vickerstown and BFSC drew 6-6.
