BARROW ABC are one of the clubs to have benefitted from a donation from the organisers of last month’s boxing show in Grange-over-Sands.

Lewis Smith, Brandon Smith and Ryan Jones were all in action on the Furness Freemasons group’s annual show at the Cumbria Grand Hotel, with some of the money raised on the night donated to all the clubs taking part.

Organisers were invited by Barrow coach Jeff Moses to their Brook Street gym to watch the clubs juniors in action and were impressed by what they saw.

“It was fascinating to come along and see the young people taking the first steps as boxers,” said Masonic boxing chairman Barrie Bray.

“What impressed me was the discipline and enthusiasm of those taking part. There was no messing about or acting the fool as they all concentrated on what they were required to do.

“It is great to see that our money is put to such good use.”

Furness Catholic benefitted from their involvement too and Furness Freemasons group publicity officer Dave Sear is delighted they are able to support both.

“In Jeff and his team at Brook Street and Team Ryan at Furness Catholic ABC, we have people who put in many hours to enable young people to box,” said Sear.

“Boxing, as with other sports provides, very useful life lessons about discipline and respect to those who take part in addition to the obvious fitness benefits.”
