SOUTH Lakes Ladies were celebrating back-to-back victories for the first time this season as they overcame bottom side Preston 6-0.

The visitors were led by player of the match Kerry Thorne and moved up to ninth in the North Women’s League Division Two North West.

South Lakes face a tough test this Saturday though when they head to second-placed Lytham St Anne’s.

The men’s team remain in the North West League Division Two North relegation zone following their 6-1 defeat at home to Bolton and welcome second-placed Ormskirk to Ulverston Leisure Centre this Saturday.

Windermere Men’s first-team’s hopes of extending their winning run to four games at in-form Alderley Edge 2 was ended by 6-3 defeat.

Jake Sorrenson got Mere off to a great when he calmly stroked home a reverse shot, but the hosts replied with two goals before Mere then equalised from a penalty corner strike by Captain Will Dolman. A lucky break before half-time gave the home side a 3-2 lead and

Mere started the second-half as the stronger side they found little reward until Dolman and new signing James Gough created space for the new man to open his Mere account with a cool finish into the bottom corner!

A pivotal point in the game came when Mere were refused a penalty stroke after a Mere stick was taken out at the point of shooting. Two Edge goals put them in command and they added their final goal of the game at a short corner right on the final whistle.

Didsbury Northern are Mere’s next North 2 West opponents, 1pm pushback at the Lakes School astro on Saturday.

Mere’s second team were held to a 2-2 draw in the North West League Division Five clash with Leyland & Chorley 2.

Jason Balmer and Teddy Ferguson got the goals for Mere, with Kieran Armer being named as their player of the match.
