JONO Smith is facing a possible eight weeks on the sidelines after it was confirmed he suffered a double fracture of his cheekbone in Toulouse last Saturday.

The Barrow Raiders second row was forced off in the first half of the 50-0 defeat away to Toulouse Olympique, with Tom Walker and Jake Spedding both having to leave the field too.

Walker and Spedding are doubts for this Sunday's visit of Swinton Lions with groin and hamstring injuries respectively, but Smith looks to be the latest long-term absentee for Barrow

"He went to see the specialist on Monday," said Raiders head coach Paul Crarey. "He got off the plane at two in the morning and went straight to hospital.

"He finished the game at 5.30pm, we were on the bus and to the airport at 6.15pm, and he travelled home and was straight to the hospital where they x-rayed it and he had a double fracture.

"We believe it's an eight-week injury."

Smith had to wait until he was back in the UK to go to hospital and Crarey was full of sympathy for the situation he was in.

But despite the nature of his injury, Smith still put his hand up to play against Swinton if needed.

"You've got lads sitting on aeroplanes on the way home with broken cheekbones, which is not good," said Crarey.

"I felt sorry for the kid and he said if we're short at the weekend he'll play, which is the measure of the man."
