PAUL Crarey was delighted to see the Toal brothers put their hands up to play for Barrow Raiders in the defeat to Swinton Lions after lengthy spells out injured.

Shane Toal returned ahead of schedule from a ligament injury which has sidelined him since July last year, making a crucial try-saving tackle in the second half.

Elder sibling Dan added more presence in the back row coming off the interchange bench too and while Barrow head coach Crarey is wary of burdening them with too much expectation, he was pleased to have them back.

"Shane has come back a month and a half early, which is unbelievable really, and Danny is coming back in after having back spasms," said Crarey.

"We asked them to come back and it was their call to play, and without them we wouldn't have had a full complement of players.

"We're changing big number every week in our team and it's difficult to get any consistency going, and sometimes we lack a bit of cohesion when lads have been out for nine months, missed a full pre-season and seven games, then come in and expect them to do big minutes for us."

Crarey confirmed Brett Carter, who was 18th man against Swinton, is available again too.

Meanwhile, Crarey is hoping the Barrow squad can rediscover some confidence in the hunt for a first win since the Betfred Championship season-opener away to Batley Bulldogs.

"We've got to try to find a balance, work really hard, look at what we do well and don't do well, and see if we can get some performances together and try to get some results," said Crarey.
